This was the first song I wrote after seeing the ink painting featured on the album cover. I immediately knew that image was destined for a record jacket. To me it has multiple meanings, recalling the machines of the industrial revolution, of course, steam engines, steam cars, now cars, and bicycles. At first I wanted to call the band "Iron Horse" until C.O. of Canada Boy Vinyl, Dean Reid, informed me that it is a Motorhead song. The artist, Lavender Woodman, is an equestrian and equine artist, and this piece I see as sort of a psychological portrait.
As an environmentalist considering before, during and after industrial development, I acknowledge my part in causing the exhaust from those smoke stacks. We are in flux. I long to see the day of non-polluting production of only the items that are necessary to daily life (such as vinyl records [tongue-firmly-in-cheek.])
Post-petroleum vinyl for the records, eh? eh? Baby steps are being taken.
lyrics
The pounding of our hearts the only sound I hear,
Gateway of the Sun where the Gods are near,
Awaken to the secrets from the other side,
Ritual initiate, now open wide.
Going to ride my Iron Horse all night to get to you,
It's been a lifetime, baby, since I met you,
Music in my heart and soul connects with you,
Question begs and begs now babe, what can I do?
Think and feel and love and wait and wonder,
Keep my windows open in the thunder,
Let the rain come in, How is that a sin?
Think and feel and love and wait and wonder.
Billows of the factory smoke are rising,
Painting with broad strokes on the horizon,
There's no use in trying to deny them,
Just ride my Iron Horse right by them.
To have your body next to mine at night,
And know that I don't even have to fight,
Your words, your touch, my love, are my delight,
Come together with me, baby, that's right.
